Best Practise: Catering to Non-Web Users
Although we live in an age where more than half of New Zealanders are using the Internet on a regular basis, some people who have email access, do not have access to the Web.
People who typically cannot see graphics in email include those with old versions of email software and more commonly, employees of organisations who may not grant them Web access, although they are still able to receive and send email.
In such instances, standard HTML emails with images will be displayed. The recipient, your customer or member, will receive red crossed boxes indicating that the images are broken. All the graphics that should have been displayed are no longer there. The way that images are displayed in HTML emails is by pulling the image from the Web on a hosted server. Those people without Web access, will not be able to see graphics in their email and will not be able to unsubscribe from a mailing list by clicking on the 'unsubscribe' link.
For such users the email appears to be a quite disjointed and unprofessional - not a good brand advertisement.
MessageMedia has created a 3rd version of email to cater to non-web users. It ensures that information is still laid out according to its design. It also ensures that people are still able to unsubscribe, thus complying with best practice and industry guidelines.
